Research Interests

The single largest risk factor for any of the major neurodegenerative diseases is advanced human age. Incredible research advances have allowed us to extend healthy human lifespan and fight disease. However, in all that progress we have also set up the next major challenge, developing ways to support and treat the huge number of people that are now at risk for neurodegenerative disease. So far, we are limited to addressing symptoms and supporting patients and their families as there is no way to prevent, treat, or cure this group of diseases. My lab is interested in brain aging and the difference between a brain that ages successfully and one that is at risk for developing disease. Using mouse models of rapid aging, we are seeking to understand the molecular mechanism behind brain function and dysfunction with the goal of better understanding and supporting the aging brain.
