Summer Experience

Important supplements to Creighton coursework are appropriate summer activities. These provide interesting experiences and help in career development. They also demonstrate purpose and help in establishing contacts that can be beneficial in applying to professional and graduate schools. Examples of appropriate summer experiences are jobs in hospitals, clinics, laboratories, national parks, zoos, or field stations; volunteer work in the same kinds of institutions; attendance at a summer field course or regular university summer sesion; or participation in an undergraduate research program.

The best plan is to begin at least by the summer following the sophomore year. After one summer of coursework, technician jobs, etc., advanced opportunities for independent work and research often become available during the summer following the junior year. Department faculty hve extensive literature available on summer job, course, and research opportunities. In addition, bulletin boards on the fourth floor of the Rigge Science Building provide notices of current opportunities.
